CHEMBIORAD Working Groups

Four working groups (WG1-WG4) address the formation, reactivity and fate of free radicals involving bio-molecules, such as unsaturated lipids, aromatic-, cyclic- and sulphur-containing amino acid residues, sugar and base moieties of nucleic acids.

WG1 – Lipid geometrical isomers - 9 members
WG Leader: Carla Ferreri, Italy; e-mail:
Tasks: (i) Lipid libraries for identification of biomarkers of radical stress (link to pathologies and aging); (ii) Lipid isomerization or oxidation: modified lipids and signal pathways; (iii) Preventive systems for lipid damage.

WG2 – Sulfur, aromatic and proline residues - 9 members
WG Leader: Chantal Houeè-Levin, France; e-mail:
Tasks: (i) Peptide/protein libraries of modification at targeted residues: cysteine, methionine, proline and aromatics; (ii) Radical functioning of enzymes; (iii) Biological activity of modified sequences and link to diseases and aging; (iv) Preventive systems for protein damage.
